AARP® Driver Safety CourseRetirement and BeyondThe AARP® Driver Safety course is the nation’s first and largest refresher course designed specifically for drivers 50 and older. Improve your driving skills during this course, and if you're 55 or older, get a 10%, three-year discount on your personal auto insurance. By taking the driver safety course, drivers learn research-based safety strategies that can reduce the likelihood of having a crash. They include: Minnesota state-specific driving regulations; proper use of seat belt, air bags, antilock brakes and new technology found in vehicles today; the importance of eliminating distractions, such as eating, smoking, and using a cellphone; learn ways to manage and accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time; and understand the effects of medications on driving. Senior Housing TourRetirement and BeyondIs a change of housing in the future for you or a loved one? Hosted by Douglas County Senior Services along with Social Services and Horizon Public Health, you will learn about some of the choices in the Alexandria area (senior apartments, 55+ housing communities and assisted living communities). After a short informational session at the Public Works Conference Room (526 Willow Drive), we will board a school bus and visit 2-3 senior housing sites. The bus will have wheelchair accessibility.
