This course introduces the basics of American Sign Language (ASL). This course is designed for students with no or minimal sign language skills to develop basic skills in use of ASL and knowledge of Deaf culture. Emphasis is upon acquisition of comprehension, production and interactional skills using basic grammatical features. ASL will be taught within contexts and related to general surroundings and everyday life experiences. The only requirements for kids to attend are that they are able to read and be accompanied by a parent/adult.

This class is for students who have learned the very basic watercolor skills and are ready to take the next step in developing their own work and style. This class develops the student’s confidence in developing original paintings from photographs. Students will work on compositional design, creating an area of focus, value planning and color harmony. Weekly demonstrations for a specific technique to develop competency, individual coaching to help realize your visions and encouragement to work at your own pace. Design and make your own canoe paddle from scratch. Choose your own design, Beavertail, Ottertail, Algonquin or Voyageur, and which types of wood to use. Over the course of 3 days, you will shape the paddle—the same way artisans have been making paddles for centuries. No previous woodworking skills are required and all tools will be provided. Course will be led by Urban Boat Builders.
